MOM HACK! Since marrying into an Italian family, I have picked up this gem. You ever boil pasta and set your timer, only to find out it boils over and destroys your nice clean stove? UGH! It is the worst! Well, try this next time and for sure you will not be disappointed.

All you have to do is place a wooden spoon (has to be wooden!) over your boiling pot of pasta. It will never boil over again! After a little research, I was finally able to find out how and why it works.

"Leave a wooden spoon lying across the pot. This might seem like an old wives' tale, but it works. Here's how: when the foam bubbles up it will eventually meet the spoon. The foam is thermodynamically unstable, which means when the bubbles reach the spoon they will burst, breaking the layer of foam and sending all of the bubbles collapsing down again."
